I beleive the new movie will follow through the same books that the original movie covered. If you're not familiar with it, there was a hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy made in the 60s or 70s that featured much of the voice talent from the original BBC radio show. I hope the new movie does justice to the books and radio show.

If it's british then this movie will flop so bad.. unless they understand us and replace all their unfunny jokes with toilet humor.

I've not read the book. But uh, I have pretty bad news for you. The movie is supposed to be TERRIBLE. Let me give you two reasons:
1. The movie is being made by Disney
2. The script was just approved recently because the authour died. He had previously been sending the script back for rewrites. So he was out of the way, and now you have the movie.
Since it is made by Disney, seems like gillian will enjoy it.

Ok, what the hell is this 'British Humour' of which you speak? Is it just something morons refer to when they don't understand something that the Monty Python boys said? I mean jesus..
Anywho, the TV series which was made during the 80's was extremely enjoyable, despite the fact that it was the 80's and the effects aren't exactly brilliant. But then again, special effects are overrated. It did the book a great justice. The movie doesn't look too appealing, but I'll probably give it a watch, seen as it has some pretty good actors in it. Ones most of you guys won't have heard of, being that they've mainly only done shows in England.

Why do you say that? I don't like anything Disney's been doing for the last 5 years or so.

I liked the trailer shown in the theaters. Most movies do suck, but I'll probably see this sometime. Right after Starwars.

That is quite true since Disney is aiming for the kiddie crowd, but when I said that, it's a backhanded compliment to American humor in general.

true. but still the book doesn't really have any crude humor in it. so how could it not be aimed for younger people. but most of the people seeing arnt seeing it for the book

Exactly what I was thinking. I never got what "British humour" is. Anytime an american I've seen try to impressionate "british humour" its a broken record repeat of monty python and the flying circus routine gone a rye.
I'll see the movie only becuase I read the book a long time ago and the book was funny.

The movie isn't all it is stacked up to be. The book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is not about romance, where as the movie potrayed Romance as the driving force. As said before, the movie isn't all it is stacked up to be, decent humor, decent acting, and decent scenes but as some reviews state, majority of the book was taken out to compensate for time, which led to the fall of the movie itself in my opinion. If I remember correctly, that is not how the book ended at all, nor most of the events taken place. Few, which I recall, like the Whale and pot of Petunias I remember vividly because it was humorus "Oh, look, that deserves a strong sounding word that is like.. round..grud? Ground? yes, I shall call it ground! I wonder if it will be my friend" -SPLAT-...Yea, my opinion, take it as it is.

Shoeless was right. 5 people walked out of the theater because they didn't get it. Hell I thought it was hilarious. A few plot points and a poor ending... but hey, I had fun. At times I think it tried to be too random without explaining itself, but that was only in the case of the towel, which they never explained why it was the ultimate weapon in the universe. I can see how it got bad reviews though... some people just don't get it. You can tell what it's going to be within the first few minutes with the dolphin joke. Monty Python does space. If you loved Shuan of the Dead, you'll love it.
Oh Yeah, I didn't read the book... I probably will now though.

I work in a movie theater, and saw the movie opening night. Personally, I thought it was great. It was smart, and funny, something that is all too uncomon these days...
Most of the people that walk out of the movie, are fat-heads... literally. They're usually enormous, and look like they spend most of their day fixing motorcycles. Either that, or they're rich snobs, that probably own a hotel somewhere. I'm basing this off of physical appearance and personality of course, as I work in concession, and box office, I tend to talk to a lot of god damned morons.
Anyway, the movie was great, though I'm not too sure how it stacked up to the book. They didn't explain the towels, and the improbability drive was hardly explained as well. Just the basic idea was explained, but not much more. It's the type of movie that you can't go to with a gator in your pants... you have to be willing to laugh, and most people just aren't.

Looks really dumb, and weird, but i won't know til i see it. Rather rent it if anything though..If i were to laugh it'd be at it, not with it , but i doubt i would even do that..

I really hated the first book when I tired reading it about 4 years ago. I usually despise sci-fi humor, that's why. But now rgar the movies out, maybe I'll give the books another try.

the reason they left was becuase they were really disapointed becuase it was not far enough away from the book but it wasnt close enough. the reason you like it was becuase you have probably never read the booksa am i write. oh well *walks off singing "so long and thanks for all the fish")

1. I took my towel to the movie, and started people waving towels at every mention.
2. I read the series in a day and a half (literally)
3. The movie is an altered version of the first book.
 hope that settles everything.

I honestly thought the movie was quite good, despite the fact that it was PRODUCED (to clear things up) by Disney. But Ford is black (unlike described in the book and by the looks of David Dixon), and I think he seems quite keen on Arthur because he hugs him, and gropes his leg. But perhaps it was all in my head. My friend and I giggled every time Ford or Zaphod said Belgium. So did the nerds with the towels.
Any who, the movie was quite similar to the books, and perhaps just a tad bit squashed together. I'm told they might make a sequel, because of the fact that at the end Ford says "Well, there is a restaurant at the end of the universe" as Arthur and Trillian quickly fall in love and kiss (awkward). But I think even if they made a sequel, it couldn't be too good as the rest of the books after the restaurant at the end of the universe were pretty stinky and contradicted the first books.
PS : If you go to see it, be sure to bring a towel. That's what all of the Hitchhiker's fans do (but they seem to think that it would be an original idea. xD)
