Anyone read The Amulet of Samarkand? It's pretty sweet.

Even if you're not too big of a fan of fantasy it should be your kind of thing. cuz it kind of mocks it a bit.

It's about a kid who summons a djinni called Bartimaeus to get revenge on a really powerful magician. (In the world all magicians rely on djinnis or spirits of some sort to command their magic, of this B. is cranky).

the book switches back and forth from the first person point of view of Bartimaeus, to the third person account of Nathaniel, his "master". Bartimaeus is a witty and sarcastic djinni and an otherwise joy to read. He even uses footnotes which are just about as funny as wicked.

I can't wait to read the second one of the trilogy!

I'm almost done, in Lovelace's little castle, not going to spoil anything, but yes it is during the attack. This book is truly great, and my friend is reading it too. I'm getting the second book soon so when I finish the first (shortly) it will be there.
