So this Christmas I recieved a book writen by one of my favorite comedians, George Carlin. I've read Napalm And Silly Putty as well as Brain Droppings and loved both. So naturally I'll buy the book by Author name alone, not mention an excellant title. To my surprise this book let me down big time.
To start off, Carlin opens sort of slowly, talking about language, which could be interesting enough sometimes, then he plunges in by comparing religious fanatics to UFO witnesses. Then through out about 10 more pages he keeps going on with increasingly irrelevant thingd on religion. Then the book moves at a snail pace never picking up much in speed.
The pacing in the book is only one problem, then there's the lack of diverse subject matter. He has 13 different bit's throughout the book on euphemisims, one of which being a two parter on political speech. He goes on tangents of outlandish bull**** inbetween which seems to be put there to mask the lack of topics. You get the feeling that is Dat Phan wrote a book, they would be the same, that's how bad it is.
Speaking of content alot of his small bits seemed to be ripped directly from his latest HBO special, and some from even older sets. Worse yet some are taken from one of his prior books, sometimes word for word.
Despite this being an overall funny book, it's not up to Carlins standerds, and if anyone else had amde it no one would have a problem calling it a mediocre book. In short, save yourself some moeny and buy one of his CD's.
