In school, the teachers made us read specific books. Some were boring some were actually interesting. Which was your favorite one and which one did you hate? I hated the Three Musketeers but loved Hop on Pop.

I have a lot of school-assigned readings that I like, hehe. Some examples are, Toni Morrison's Beloved, Kate Chopin's The Awakening, Charles ****en's A Tale of Two Cities, and Daniel Keyes' Flowers for Algernon. These are all among my all-time favorite books, so it's hard to choose just one. :riiight:

There was this one book we had to read about the triles of some hicks who livedi on the Prarie in the early 1900's Dont remember the name of it. I hated that one. Also hated white fang.
There were a few I really liked; Lord of the Flies, and The Giver were awesome.
Also my 7th grade history teacher recomended Animal Farm. I had no clue why. I was only like 13 and not really into politics, but to my suprise I really enjoyed it. Read it twice infact.
..oh yea! Phantom Tollbooth was great. Probably my favorite along with Animal Farm and a few of the Edgar Allen Poe short stories we read.
Except The Fall of the House of Usher. Damn that was CREEPY!.

I love to read so I have alot of favorites. My favortie story/book in the eighth grade was "Flowers for Algernon".
As for the seventh grade my teacher gave us a list of books she has read that she knew we would like and I did like them. They were all good but my favorites were "The giver", "Go ask Alice", "A child called it", and "Lost Boy".
In high school my favorites so far are "A raisin in the sun" and "Romeo and Juliet". I didn't like "House on Mango Street", it was boring.

I loved Ender's Game. I read that like when I was twelve. But I actually like Ender's Shadow better. Flowers for Algernon was a really weird book, I thought. I had to read it in 8th grade. I want to read Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Doestoevky.

I generally find Dostoevsky's books to be too long-winded. I read half of Crime and Punishment and then gave up, that was many many years ago...there is only one book by Dostoevsky that I actually finished and enjoyed, that was The Idiot, very good book.

I've read a ton of books in school but I have to say my least favorite have been Farenheit 451, Hiroshima, and Animal Farm, all coincidentally being from last year.
I think my favorite has got to be To Kill A MockingBird, The Odyssey(Don't ask me why. o_O I have a thing for the greeks), and if you'll count it, though its actually a play, Oedipus Rex. As I said. I have a thing for greek stuff. >.>;;
EDIT: I forgot about My buddy Edgar! I loove The Cask of Amontillado, even though for the last 4 years, we've had to read it in every single english class. I love it! The Tell-tale Heart is so so. I'm not too big on that one, but I'm positive we're going to read the Pit and the Pendulum this next year, even though I've read it already myself. We'll most likely read the Raven as well, but The Masque of The Read Death is my personal fave. ~.^

In drama we did a whole unch of plays from that era Even Antigoni.
I loved them all (Tho I didnt like how they made Homer out to be some hero when he was really a very typical, violance loving, womanizing, greedy pig) I love Greek and Egyption Mytholagy tho. Ill read anything on either subject.
The Cask of The Almontiado was good, but why do you have to read it every year? Sure as hellisnt like Poe doesnt have anyother works. I had a read quite a few of them. Really? The mask of the red Death is my Favorite too. :p

The Catcher in the Rye was by far the greatest book I ever had to read. Honorable mentions go to Macbeth, Beowulf, The Illiad, The Odyssey, and To Kill a Mockingbird
I really hated Hamlet, Othello, and above all else, the most boring book in the world: Silas Marner

Right now, I have to read Catch 22. EXCELLENT book. In the past, I've had to read, The Octopus, Of Mice and Men, Girl with the Pearl Earring, The Pearl, Travels With Charley, Cold Mountain (years before the movie), Black Elk Speaks, Catcher in the Rye (Love that book), and in 6th grade, The Pushcart Wars. That book sucks.

my favorite books ive read in school are probably all of Homer's work, all of Shakespeare, and two books ive read so far this year really stand out: Grendel and The Once and Future King. those were great because they really make you think about yourself.

I hate Oliver Twist. The book is so boring since all it shows is his problems. It only gets intresting at the end, but if I wasn't forced to read it, I would never have made it that far. I also don't like A Midsummer Night's dream. I'm not sure why.
A book I like is A Seperate Peace. It has a lot depth that is shown subtlely, and if you never think about what you're reading you miss it.

I had to read Grapes of Wrath this summer for Andover. It was really slow, boring and drawn out with details of randomness. We're currently reading Stop-Time by Frank Conway, don't know if anyone's heard of him. It's an autobirgraphy which is actually fun to read, but the stories he throws in there are sometimes pretty boring.

Worst: A Seperate Peace. Reguardless of what my old English teacher said, Gene and Finny must be gay. And The Grapes of Wrath. There were many others, but I read so many books in the last few years for this thing called Prime Reading (we had it instead of homeroom) I cannot really remember them all.
Best: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Frankenstien, many of good ole Bill Shakespeare, To Sir, With Love, The Scarlett Letter and soooooo many more.
Currently, I'm reading 'Tis by Frank McCourt, The Communist Mannifesto by Karl Marx/Richard Engles, and Helter Skelter (on and off). Probably a few others too.

My favorite books for school so far have been: To Kill a Mockingbird, The Giver, and Nothing but the Truth (we haven't really been reading a lot:P)
My least favorite book absolutely has to be I Heard the Owl call me Name. It just seemed like the author couldn't focus on anything but when people died. God forbid something funny happens it span more than a paragraph. But that's just my two cents.

:O I looove Oedipus Rex!
I can't believe some people are saying how they like Shakespeare's stuff. Yeah, it's decent... Othello and Macbeth are the only two titles of his that I actually like.

This year (9th) we've read Animal Farm and we will be reading Romeo and Juliet next along with Hamlet and 1984.
In Junior High we read Flowers for Algernon, I Hear Soft Rains, Fahrenheit 451, Where the Red Fern Grows, and Hatchet.
I liked most of them except Where the Red Fern Grows. I got majorly bored with it and started reading Scarlet Letter.

I just read Crime and Punishment as a free choice book for English. The story gets better after the halfway point. Well, at least things started coming together and more insightful stuff to think about. I wish it was a mandatory book because it would be great to have a discussion on. Hated reading the Odyssey. I'd read the shortened versions at least three times before so to read the extended detailed version was hell. I enjoyed reading To Kill a Mockingbird and we're currently reading Grendel which is the Beowulf story from Grendel's point of view. It's quite interesting and thought provoking.

Whenever we read a book in class we kill it. We rip it up and stretch it out and beat it until it's dead, and there is no literary value left in it whatsoever. We've killed so many good books this way you won't believe it, most books I have already read, so it is double torture for me because we have to do predictions. Still, I like the ones I choose myself best, because we try to stick to noncontroversial in class, except for excepts from "Flowers for Algernon," "Lord of the Flies," and "Diary of Anne Frank." The rest were crap.

sophmore year in English class, we had to read this book called "Farenhit 451". theee most outlandish wierdest book ever. and even worse the movies is more odd and unusual. its about this weird ass town that for some reason isnt aloud to read books os they have these guys come along and burn them, in a big pile. wile people watch. cant really elaborate any more on it , because of the fact it was very boring and i didnt undsterand it.
