I've noticed tons of talent within this forum and to all my good high school peeps, ... any of ya been considering to major in the English Department? I assume that would include Writing, Language Arts, Poetry, Literature, etc...? As a freshman in high school, I have discovered my strength and where I wanna be headed with my education...

Well I just been wondering... what are these colleges lookin' for? How can you get noticed? And what are some good colleges for writing? Hit me up with some feedback or whatever ya know. It'd be much appreciated.

Hmm.. Well, I myself am not exactly sure if writing is the career I want to persue, but I enjoy it so much, it's unexplainable.

I've looked into it. I think if I do follow through with writing, I'd go for English Creative Writing, which I can get a Master's Degree in at the University of Florida in Gainseville, Florida.(Tis only an hour from where I live too.)

I have looked into ALL of that which is above. The University of Florida for one is an excellent school. That's a known fact.. >.>

If not that, I was thinking of going into something like Journalism for a bit, but now I don't think I would like that.

I'm just not sure myself.

EDIT

a film study class would be more helpful than you could imagine if the teacher makes you do any real work (for writers more than poets)

Hahaha. I hate poetry. Well, some of it, of course. It just doesnt sink in. I like your advice for a freshman. *waves hand* Just finished 9th grade. ^-^

you're a freshman?

why don't you focus on what you're gonna take in highschool first and stress about what college to go to later?

take whatever classes you can while its still easy

creative writing, journalism, and if you want a class that will let you practice your own writing skills, a film study class would be more helpful than you could imagine if the teacher makes you do any real work (for writers more than poets)

...just keep in mind that talented poets and writers are a dime a dozen. Be sure to develop your own style, and dedicate yourself to perfecting it so your work will stand out

I'm considering majoring in English at the moment. I'm even writing a story that I'm going to try and publish before I get out of high school.
