Well, for me, I can't afford martial arts either. I used to take the Okonawan Sheri Ru. I know I probably spelled it wrong, but that's how it's pronounced. I got to the level of blue belt, but our teacher quit to train more at better martial schools. He was one of those big time karate pros at a YMCA. Our next teacher was cruel and unusual, over disciplinary i guess. He even barely showed up, so he hired other people to teach. So now, I practice my own style based a little on Okonawan Sheri Ru. I even learn to use a wooden sword in my style.

I got the site for you. Go to www.sherdog.com (http://www.sherdog.com) and check out their forums. Aside from the main discussion boards, they have a lot of info in their boards for information about striking, grappling, conditioning, etc.

JEET KUNE DO is the most useful self defense of them all.
It was refined perfectly by Bruce Lee to be used as a way to defend ones self on the street, not just the ring. Get a book and you will see how it can be useful in a real life situation not limited by rules.
