I was going through this article about Nintendo's problems on the video game market, and I remembered that the whole "Nintendo vs Sony vs Microsoft" was a big issue on the forums at one point. So, I submit this article for your discussion about the current condition and future of Nintendo. What do YOU think about the way Nintendo is addressing its issues and do you think it has a chance to make a comeback?
(Please no people saying "XBOX rules!" or "PS2 rules" or "Gamecube sucks". This thread isn't really about that.)

nintendo seems to be losing its steam. I mean for the most part all the good games on the GC are nothing but the old franchises of yesterday renewed. You can only do that so many times before people grow tired of it (if i hear that gay italian plumber say 'It'sa me.. Mario!!!' one more time...... :furious: ). But yea... Nintendo really needs to bring in some new blood if they are gonna stick it out with Sony and MS for the long run. For now though, I just dont see them surviving after their next console (which there will be. Nintendo is very far from broke)
EGM: Do you think the design of the GameCube itself next to it hurt it in the beginning compared to the PS2?
George: I think it didn't look as sophisticated. I think that caused people to maybe pre-judge it, especially since other systems may look a little more like electronic appliances. But there's no doubt in anyone's mind that the GameCube has a very sophisticated chipset. It has great potential and capabilities, and it's driven many great games. And yet, the console that's succeeding the most in this generation is the PlayStation 2, which arguably has the weakest chipset of all three systems. So I think we learned that it's not always about the most sophisticated technology; it's about what you do with it, and it's also about presentation. Consumers want to feel good.
We've seen, as an example, the great success of Game Boy Advance SP, which looked a little more sophisticated than the GBA in addition to having a lighted screen and rechargeable battery. That had a great effect on our ability to sell that product to people over 18.
I love that paragraph :D i love it so much
And nintendo i have never felt was losing steam. All gaming systems in general seem to be losing steam not just nintendo because of the sheer hardness of trying to become original when games like seaman(DC), pikmin(GC), and blinx(XB) with some of the most innovated concepts have done bearly a dent in the gaming industry.
People seem to actually WANT the sme old games based on what has been said. I mean sports games are essentially the exact same game with updated rosters and yet they sell extreamly well on all systems.
Blah well anyways speaking next-gen wise GC BETTER"meet" the other systems in 2005/2006 when realsed and have the same amount of games as other companies not half, PS3 or whatever BETTER have mroe than 2 freaking controls and support good multiplayer games and xbox BETTER stop porting PC games polishing them off and load up on money. :P My beef with each consol.
Nintendo has been around too long and i think its here to stay actually. Maybe 4 more consols for it and with that another unknown company starts and kills all the systems we have now. My theory for the future :P
oh and shen... "xbox sucks, ps2 sucks and GC rules" I didnt break any rules :p It was the opposite ;)
Though they really seem to depend alot on miyamoto... I wonder how gaming is going to be when he is gone since he really no matter what system you support contributes a whole lot of innovative ideas. >_>
