they were the first all available network to do so. Thats why Disney was quick to start buying up the rights to anime movies and stuff, because Cartoon Network started stealing a large part of their audience.
Technically, SciFi has the first anime network, but it wasn't available everywhere (as well as ony showing anime for a few hours), so none of the other networks really cared. Since Cartoon Network can be seen everywhere and has a lot of anime to show, it's much more damaging to the other networks ratings.

Is Disney going to show all the anime they bought or is this some nefarious scheme they cooked up to protect Donald and Mickey?

yea, cartoon network is definately trying to get animes. like it was posted before, they have adult swim, toonami, and all the little wannabe animes(teen titans for instance).
its alright with me though, i like animes and i dont wanna buy em from stores, plus my comp sucks so i most likely wont be getting em off the net.
*EDIT*
Wow, i definately cant imagine disney showing animes :eek2:

Disney's been buying Anime rights??? Woah, thats a shocker.
Cartoon Network used to have some good shows on Sat, nights it was the First edition of Adult Swim
Then they got Sunday Adult Swim, nightly Adult Swim, and got rid of Saturday and got the stupid thing they have now.
And don't diss Teen Titans or Totally Spies, they are half decent shows better than SD Gundam
And yes I do have WAY to much free time

yeah, they are, but are failing horribly (opinion)

Are they getting animes? Yes. Are they sucking? No. Everyone here loves to bash them, and I'll admitt theyre not may fav station or source for anime, howevre its getting people interested. How many people watched DBZ a few years back? Theyve brought some great titles to the US, trigun, cowboy bebop, and some of the original gundams. Did they edit them? Yes, on a few occasions they butched episodes, but we can't be picky, blame the censors not CN.

shows like Totally Spies and Teen Titans annoy me everytime i see them on tv. it feels like a horrible attempt at anime...but gone terribly wrong. i think the plot and storylines(if there is one) are just too cliche. that's my opinion. but the REAL anime they show on Adult Swim and stuff, i agree with therabbidchimp

ok to anyone who doesent agree with what cap'n commu said, guess who sold spirited away, castle in the sky, and kikis delivery service in america? Disney. And look at kingdom hearts. All of the Artwork? Anime style. no wadda say?

You mean CapnCrooked... and yeah. Thats what I mean. Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, etc. Thats all stuff Disney bought the rights to so they could produce it here in the US.

Since Disney only seems to wanna release Miyazaki's **** (emphasize that word in most cases involving Miyazaki with the exception of Mononoke Hime) I wonder why THEY didn't jump all over MH? Oh, yeah, cuz it's too violent for pansyass Disney. Does Disney EVER do anything to appeal to an older audience? What's that? No? Didn't think so... Anyways...CN isn't ALL bad, sure they do play butchered versions of a lot of animes but at least they're spreading the word of anti-ignorance, when it comes to anime at least. I don't particularly like a lot of their stuff, and I started watching anime long before they bought out DBZ (I used to watch the original DB on the Warner Bros. channel in Seattle in 5th grade and ****) but at least now more people know what anime ACTUALLY is as opposed to what they THINK it is.

You guys are all retards. I bet you all started watching anime on Cartoon Network. I knew what anime was because I read manga. ANd than I started to like it more when I watched the shows. And don't make fun of series such as Totally Spies and Teen Titans. You can start criticizing once you make your "awesome" anime series.

Wait... if you're saying they didn't put out Mononoke Hime, you're wrong. That was one of the first ones the released. It was Kiki, then Mononoke, then Laputa.
They even released the Mononoke Hime dub in theaters.

I hate the anime that's put on the day time syndicate for cartoon network, but i do enjoy some of the animes on adult swim [most of the great ones were canceled, i.e. cowboy bebop, FLCL, Trigun]. But the dragon ball and totally spies and sd gundam crap they put on the air is just that: crap. If they put some more good anime on adult swim, like maybe Gunsmith Cats, Excel Saga, or maybe even fushigi yugi, then i would like them a whole lot better. The shows that they took off were the best ones. Bring back the saturday night as!

What's wrong with Teen Titans? i don't really find the plots cliche. I mean, who would've thought that Robin was really that Red X guy? I don't think anyone saw that coming. While I'll agree that the facial expressions do have an anime-ish thing goin on, it seems to work quite well with the characters.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I first started watching anime on cn when I was like 8 or 9 with Sailor Moon and Tenchi. Now of course, I go with much better, uncensored stuff. But if cn doesn't show it, how will most people who don't even know that anime exists (if thats possible), find out what it is and get better stuff like manga. If you don't like it, then don't watch it. And stop complaining.

from all the anime I've seen on cartoon network I think they ruined most of it, but the thing that annoys me the most, is how they changed characters voices from the original one, like Goku's voice, it was better in japanese... anyway they can try but I bet they will just ruin the anime they bring on the air
