Have you bought a new CD recently? If you have and the CD is good, then recommend it here. Make sure to say what kind of music it is, how many tracks, what you think of it, your rating out of five stars etc. Please make sure that the CD was released recently, because I don't want this thread to start cramming up with random old CDs. Only one post per day at most. No comments on another CD recommended. If this thread has been done before and people complain, I'll delete it. I guess I'll start with my recommendation:

ARTIST: Static-X
ALBUM: Shadow Zone
AMT OF TRACKS: 12
TYPE OF MUSIC: Metal
RATING: *** (out of 5 *'s)
WHAT I THINK OF IT: An interesting album, which contains songs which sound sorta different from normal Static-X songs, but are still enjoyable. A definite grab for Static-X fans.

ALBUM: Drankin Partners
TYPE OF MUSIC: Rap/Hip-Hop
RATING: ***1/2
WHAT I THINK OF IT:A great Album but some songs are repeative, but i still recommend you check it out,if you are new to to the hip hop game you might love it as for others(Emu :D) you might not like it because of its style/southern feel.If you looking for a WuTang,Big dady kane,or Tupac feel this is not your album

EDIT: two tracks that i lke from the ablum are "Damn" and 'Lay Low" check it out

ARTIST: Styles of Beyond
ALBUM: Megadef
GENRE: Underground Hip Hop
RATING: **** (out of 5)
WHAT I THINK OF IT: The group styles of beyond is pretty big on the underground scene. They are cali rappers, but dont have a West Coast style. On the Mic are Ryu and Tak, who In my opinion are two amazing lyricists. Their DJ (Cheapshot) is an excellent producer.
SOB's first LP was a strictly lyrical album. Megadef, however, has more of a rap/rock vibe to it, and they did it right. It doesnt sound shotty or half assed like so called rap/rock artists such as limp bizkit. These guys deliever solid tracks with a rock vibe that b-boy could still break to. If you're lookin for somethin to nod your head to that is out of the ordinary, this album is perfect for you.

EDIT:
Chances are you're not gonna want to waste your money on something you've never heard, so if u want a taste of what SOB sounds like, download the tracks "Gigantor" and/or "Playin with Fire"

note: not all of the tracks are rap/rock. just most of them

ARTIST: World/Inferno Friendship Society
ALBUM: Hallowmass Live at Northsix
AMT OF TRACKS: 15
TYPE OF MUSIC: Bizzaro Ska/Gypsy music
RATING: ****1/2 (Out of 5)
WHAT I THINK OF IT: Although I prefer International Smashims, this is still an excellent CD. Since it's live, Jack's commentary between each song is left in, adding a good touch of humor to the CD. The only problem is that I am not fond two of their new songs, "Witches" and "Lets Steal Everything". But the other's are fantastic, such as "Younger Man" and of course many old songs too. So all in all, it's a great CD and is defintly worth buying. I just dont know where you can get a copy outside of a W/IFS show. Eh, I'm sure it's somewhere on the net.

ARTIST: Apocalyptica
ALBUM: Cult
AMT OF TRACKS: 14
TYPE OF MUSIC: Metal...with cellos
RATING: ****
WHAT I THINK OF IT: Very interesting concept, playing Metal music with cellos. When I read a review of their first CD (Plays Metallica by Four Cellos, which is just that--Metallica covers using cellos), I thought that it would be much more classical than Metal (not that I have a problem with that--I'm becoming more interested in Classical Metal). It turns out I was wrong. I was surprised at the sound created by the cellos (of course they use some distortion). There is no denying it; this band plays Metal. Just listen to "Pray!", "Path II", or "Hyperventilation" to see what I mean. They've also got some softer songs, such as "Romance" and "Beyond Time". The cello solos are very interesting, especially the one in "In Memoriam", which has a very strange, cool sound to it. To top it off are two more Metallica covers and a cover of Edvard Grieg's "Hall of the Mountain King" (you've all heard this, whether or not you realize it.

Artist : The Black Halos
Album: The Black Halos
Tracks: 12
Genre: Power Punk
Rating *** 1/2 *
What I Thought About It:
Well, it came across as a good concept. Its mixing punk of sorts like GreenDay but these rockers are a bit more extreme. They are known for their insane performances where they stay true to the punk lifestyle by creating giantic moshes and getting beaten senseless themselves. The lead singer, Billy Hopeless, has one of the worst singing voices in music. He has probably done this to stay a non-conformist. He still stays afloat due to the catchy songs but all of which lack total originality. Slight innovation is seen though. I actually bought this album and you should as well as long as you can see through Billy Hopeless' insanly horrible voice.

Anyways its a really great CD, its got Somewhere I Belong on it, Faint, Numb, all singles now. Its also got this awsome techno mix called Session. Its in The Matrix. Genre: Rap rockish metal, I dont know!

2 CDs.

Artist: Chimaira
Album: The Impossibility of Reason
Tracks: 14
Genre: Metal
Rating: *****
What I Think About It: Really good CD. Loud, hard, and fast. A friend recommended them to me, and then I heard "Down Again" and loved the song, so I bought the CD, but after listening to the album I loved ALL of it, as opposed to just the single.

Artist: DevilDriver
Album: DevilDriver
Genre: Hard Rock/Metal (combination of the two)
Rating: *****
What I Think About It: Powerful music. Good rock-out or fight music. Kinda bummed that Dez left Coal Chamber, but DevilDriver is even better so It's not so bad.

Yes, I gave both CDs 5 stars, but I think that both of them are some of the better material I've picked up in a long time. Although the Ill Niño CD was pretty good too.

Album: Evolver
Tracks: 11
Genre: alternative
Rating: ****
What I Think About It: I think that is pretty good. I've been listenin to 311 since there "blue" album, selftitled i guess. Evolver is more mellow than the other ones, but its a good mellow. All of the songs aren't all mellow tho. I guess the only downside to this CD is that its about 30mins or so. The cd tho, is an enhanced cd w/ some cool stuff, like behind the scenes and whatnot.

ALBUM: Thank You
AMT OF TRACKS: 15
TYPE OF MUSIC: Grunge, Alternative Rock

WHAT I THINK OF IT: this is a greatest hits album featuring one new song titled, all in the suit that you wear. if you're a general rock fan, this is definately an album worth getting. if you're an STP fan, it falls a little short. (like most 'greatest hits' albums for bands you like, it's missing some of the songs i like, for example, dead and bloated.)

One Good One:

Artist: Blues Traveler
Album: Travelogue: Blues Traveler Calssics
Tracks: 17
Genre: Blues/Rock
Rating: ****
What I think about it: Alot different from todays sterotypical rock or blues. The harmonica givesthem a far different sound then most bands. Try listening to it if you like alternate rock like R.E.M., Tonic, or Counting Crows.

I've been listening to Blues Traveler since 1992 and I think they're pretty different then most bands. Most of there roots come from the 70's like the Greatful dead.

What I think about it: I think it's really good, and I admit.. I only bought it because I liked one of their songs, but all of the songs on there are worth listening.. I was really surprised. I recommend it to anyone who's up for some good alternative about love..
BTW, my favorite track is "Morning Calls".. It's number 8 on the C.D.

I'll just do Andre 3000's part of the new OUTKAST album since i listen to it the most.....

Artist: OUTKAST...Andre 3000
Album: The Love Below
Tracks: 19
Genre: N/A (there is no genre for it)
Rating: **** (out of 5)

I think this is an insane album. I have been a big Outkast fan for years, literally. I have every last album they made. I have the stuff on soundtracks on burned disc and also picked up the Dungeon Family, Killer Mike, and Cee-lo albums. Anyway, Andre 3000 has really pushed the envelope with this album. He involves rap with all kinds of genres. He has rock, jazz, and hip hop. Somehow he was able to throw all of these varied genres into a giant pot and make "The Love Below". I actually suggest you buy this album. If you like good music in general you will like this album. There are tracks dedicated to sexuality oozing all over this album as well as emotions in general. There is a track that is purely an instrumental that sounds like its right out of Cowboy Bebop. Its fast paced and a delight on the ears. Buy this album if you're at the store and have nothing better to buy.

Artist: Children of Bodom
Album: Follow the Reaper
Tracks: 10
Genre: Power/Speed Metal
Rating: ****

This is a really fun album. There's nothing deep or emotional here, but these guys have great skill. The drums are good and fast like any other Metal band, but are less noticeable compared to the guitars, which are definitely the highlight of the band. With insanely fast and technical guitar solos all over the place, I recommend this to anyone who likes Metal. "Kissing the Shadows" has the best solo I've ever heard. I definitely prefer Alexi's Black-Metallesque vocals to the soaring singing of most Power Metal bands.

Wow, you're the only other person I know other than me that owns anything by Apocalyptica...probably cuz I live in the UK and get sweet FA. It is very interesting, though I wasn't too impressed with their version of Enter Sandman.

Anyways, I recommend Rob Dougan - Furious Angels(with instrumental CD)

Its been re-released with a double cd and is v cool.

Many people don't consider them power metal solely because of the harsh vocals, yet they are still labled as power. I think it's their best album so anyone who wants to try them should get it. I prefer the solo in "Northern Comfort" myself. Check out "War of Razors", an incredible live guitar and keyboard battle for more great soloing. The keyboardist is equally amazing.

Artist: Cryptopsy
Album: None So Live
Tracks: 12
Genre: Technical Death Metal
Rating: ****1/2

If you know Cryptopsy at all, you'll know they've had some problems with their vocalists leaving all the time. This features the once new vocalist Martin Lacroix who has actually left the band. He is much better than previous singer Mike DiSalvo. They need to stick to one singer. Anyway, this album is a live album but sounds great. Many of their best tracks including three of my favorites "Defenestration", "Crown of Horns", and "Slit Your Guts" are on here. Everyone in the band plays their best and manage to sound amazing as usual. A lot of songs are actually played faster than normal. The drum solo, while not to technical, is great. Flo Mounier is one of the fastest double-bass drummers I have ever heard. This man must have an extra limb somewhere. Everyone in the band is very talented and they deserve a good singer.

This wouldn't be a bad CD to be pick up even if you haven't heard them before.

Artist: Buddy Guy
Album: Damn Straight I Got The Blues (1972)
Tracks:
Genre: Blues, pure and crisp
Rating: "***1/2" to "****"

This is one of the greatest blues singers first off, he started in 1958 and he is still recording to this day. This is one of his best albums though in his long spanning career. If you want a break from all that hardcore metal and whatnot ^-^" this is a good break. Buddy Guy is an incredible guitarist and his songs are relevant and pleasing to the ear. If you would like to delve into blues music at all, try looking up Buddy Guy and checking this album as well as his many others.

Artist: G-Unit
Album: Beg For Mercy
Amount of Tracks: 18
Type of Music: Rap
Rating: ****1/2
What I Think About It: It's 50 and his crew, a lot of it is similar to Get Rich or Die Tryin' but that's not a problem imo. It has some good music, and interesting lyrics in many of the songs. It's not your typical rap straight through, either, for example "I Wanna Get To Know You" is a song addressing women without talking about hoes and *****es. And it of course has a lot of songs about murder, but that's to be expected from 3 guys who grew up gang banging. My favorite song is probably "My Buddy". It's about guns and it has sound clips from the best movie ever: Scarface.

WHAT I THINK OF IT: an awesome album that proves the band is still progressing musically. it does have a mellow feel to it, though with an edge. it kind of reminds me of fungus amongus and s.c.i.e.n.c.e. blended with morning view. definately a new sound compared to most of today's repeating noise.
it just came out today, and i'm sure that as i listen to it more and more, it'll get up there in my favorite albums.

# of Tracks // 21
Type of music // Hip Hop
Rating // 5 out of 5

Synopsis// Totally everything i imagined. So good i decided to grace my sig with his image. Kanye West has been a producer for quite some time and was known on the underground NY scene. He is a soulful producer and a real rapper. Taught under such rappers like Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Kanye West has made his own style of rapping which is rhyming about significant subject matters and being aware of the world around him. His beats are top notch and the rhyming follows closely behind. Pick this album up if you want more real rap.

Album: Death is Certain
# of Tracks: 15

Rating: 5 out of 5

This album is a refreshing change from some of Royce's more commercial sounding tracks on some of his previous albums. "Death Is Certain," is a very personal album with amazing production and a lyricism that only Royce can produce.Royce has refined his skills and totally seperated himself from the label of being "eminem's protege." It's a shame that he's the most slept on emcee ever.

I'd suggest this to anyone who liked their first album, "Come Clean." They kind of sound like Nirvana (The lead singer sounds like Kurt Cobain so much at some points that it's a little scary.), so if you liked Nirvana then Puddle of Mudd is definately worth checking out.

What I think of it: F*CKING AMAZING ALBUM. I had heard some older Soulfly stuff before, not a lot, but a little, and I liked it a lot, so I decided to buy Prophecy. I love this CD. Little more can be said about it. It's got a good mix of incredibly fast and moderate, upbeat, medium tempo sounds. Songs like Porrada, Born Again Anarchist, and Mars blew me the f*ck away. If you like hard, loud, fast music with a bit of other sounds thrown in for flavor, pick this up, this album will probably be one of my favorites for a while to come now.

...Amazing. That's all I can say about Power In Numbers. Truly Amazing. All four of these guys have amzing talent and flow. Their beats (produced by DJ Nu-Mark and Cut Chemist) bring something different to the table every time. Songs I would recommend are "A Day At The Races", "If You Only Knew", and "Thin Line."

Opinion: this album is a remix of Hybrid Theory except they are working with a whole lot of other artists. it may sound different, but i think they are just as good as the original songs.

note: my personal fav. is MY <DSMBR, though it is kinda soft (i have history with that song) if u want, u can get ENTH E ND or PPR:KUT

Title: Trust No One
# of Tracks: 10
Genre: Rock
Rating: 3.5 out of 5

My Thoughts: Im going to try and be bias since Dave Navarro is my favorite guitarist. This CD is a lot more mellow than he played with Jane's Addiction or even Red Hot Chili Peppers, but the songs are incredibly catchy and will get stuck in your head. Its worth owning if you like rock. It sort of reminds me of the more mellow songs of Jane's Addiction, but reflects his talent for songwriting and his wide range of instrumental talents. Track 5 includes the bassist for Marilyn Manson and is a harder track than most of the others, however..buy it if you can find it. Its kinda rare nowadays.

What I think of it: Really good, Howard Jones is a pretty good replacement for Jesse David Leech, and their new drummer is about as good as Tom was, so overall it's still a very similar sound to "Alive or Just Breathing", except for when Howard goes from screaming to actual singing, cuz his singing voice sounds different from Jesse's. I love this album, I bought it in the hopes that it would hold my attention until May 25 when I will have the blessing of seeing the new Slipknot album, Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses), in my own hands and I'm damn sure this album will complete its task and hold me 'til then, and still remain good after.

Title: What's Wrong with Bill?
Genre: Underground Rap
# of Tracks: 16
Rating: ***** (no joke)

...in today's music world, you're lucky if you find an album with 4 or 5 good tracks. But Non-Phixion member Ill Bill dropped one of the best album's I've heard in a while. I'd honestly say that 8 of the 16 tracks on this album are genuinely good

Sticking to traditional Non-Phixion style, this album is kind of angry and paranoid. However, probably what impressed me most was the fact that every track on this album was produced by Ill Bill's brother Necro, and the production quality is impressive. The beats aren't the only good thing about this album. Bill has stepped up his lyrical game as well, and had some bad ass lines.

Obviously, almost nobody on Dragid listens to underground rap or hip hop, and I'm here to let you know what you're missing.

WHAT I THINK OF IT: It's just a great album. The album starts great with King of Carrot Flowers pt. 1, and pts. 2&3 are just awesome. Some may not like the concept of acoustic guitars with saxophones, tubas, and the like. But if you listen to the album the whole way through, you'll just...get it. The songs are great, even if you don't listen to the words. There aren't even words on a bunch of the songs, anyway. The transitions between songs are beautiful, and the album just flows.

Title: Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)
Genre: No friggin' clue what the Hell to call it, this album is a HUGE splice of a lot of different styles, from metal to plain ol' rock to a melodic sound.
Rating: ***** (Did you really expect anything less than a perfect rating for Slipknot from me?)
What I Think of It: Oh my god I love this album. It's VERY different from what Slipknot's done before, but then again all four of their albums are different. The members of Slipknot most definitely weren't lying when they said they aimed to make an album that was more melodic and musical than any of their three past albums (although on Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. they had a very different member lineup). There's still your old hardcore Slipknot in tracks like Pulse of the Maggots, but there's even accoustic, that's right ACCOUSTIC, tracks that kick ass too, like Circle and Vermillion Pt. 2, then there's songs that are a hardcore and melodic fusion, like Vermillion, Duality, and Opium of the People. This album is so very badass that I really can't stop listening to it and I hope it stays that way for a VERY long time.

Well, Ok. I really like Velvet Revolver. It might have something to do with me being a Guns N Roses fan, but this album certainly can stand alone. Album: Legacy of Blood
Tracks: 19
Genre: Underground Rap
Rating: 4/5

Part of the reason I have so much respect for Jedi Mind Tricks is the fact that every single one of their albums is solid. Even their first LP, which was nerd rap.

Staying true to their raw, grimy, christian slamming and fag bashing style, Legacy of Blood is just overall a great album. There are only a few tracks on the LP that I won't listen to (excluding interludes). As usual, Stoupe's beats are on par, while Vinnie Paz consistantly rips the mic apart.

There are more pro-Islam, anti-christian, and anti-homosexual references than usual...but I think it just adds flavor to the collective effort. Guest spots include Sean Price, Killah Priest, and Gza of Wu-Tang

Track to download: On the Eve of War f/ Gza (there are 2 mixes, and both of them are great)

What I Think of It: This was released after they broke up, in 1989, but it's a combination of their only album ("Energy") an EP ("Hectic") and some songs they released on a compilation ("Turn It Around!"). When I bought this album, I already had heard a few Op Iv songs, I just never realized they were this good. A few of their songs sound a bit like Rancid (Note: Tim Armstrong was Op Iv's guitarist), and their best songs tend to be the ones that are more ska-ish. Genius drumming by Dave Mello.

What I think of it: How dare something be this awesome. I mean..a metal opera consisting of 12 vocalists...thats just awesome. Of those include Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth, Devin Townsend from Strapping Young Lad, and James LaBrie from Dream Theater. It is possibly the most beautiful and melodic metal album I've ever heard in my damn life. Check it out, unless you're close minded or something. By the way, the way they sing is sorta power metalish (reminiscent of the 80's a bit) but I can assure you this is a must have if you like progressive metal of any kind. What I think about it: even though it still isn't out (and only the demo is still out and you gotta know how to get it, i'm not sure, my friend got for me and i don't know how) it is an amazing album it has 2 old songs, let's Steal Everything (which is REALLY good), and Fiend In Wien (which is good but not horribly amazing), all others are new and VERY good. Jack was drunk at the recordings and in some songs you can tell because he really slurs but it is a demo anyway and the slurring adds a great accent. WHAT I THINK OF IT: I was surprised by this album. I had heard their single "The Panic" and didn't really like it. It just seemed to average to me. A friend of mine had picked up the CD and brought it over to my house and I've fallen for it. No, it's not OMGORGASMIC like the following, but it's damned good. I wasn't expecting it to be this good. They seem so unique to me. ^_^ I like the vocalist's voice a lot, and their sound sucks me in. I definately like the sadder kind of sound they have, instead of trying to look bad ass. My favorite tracks would include When It's All Burning, Never There, Waiting, We've Changed, and Today.

What I think of it: It is truely amazing. The new album from Big D mixes their old style with a new one not seen before from them. The organ makes a reaperance for one song, which is great. And the song LA.X is amazing, a 5 minute song with 38 f-words in it. Truely an epic CD.

What I think: It is a great cd to relax to, yet you can also get emotional with it. Most of it is pretty soft, using a piano in almost every song it gives it a good vibe. All in all a good cd, but not for the hardcore rocker.

WHAT I THINK OF IT: The first thing one can notice about this band is how nice Paul Mendoza's voice is. It's good to listening to, kinda makes you feel good, though it gave me goosebumps when I'd first heard it. I enjoy listening to the mixed moods of their sound. Their sound isn't thrown at you at once, so it's kind of relaxed, but somehow they pull it off to where it's not. (I'm not good with these things.)

Find out more and listen to some of their stuff here (http://www.coprorecords.co.uk/copro_bands/unjust.html).

What I think of it: SYL is a metal band with no gimmick or trendiness to them whatsoever, theyre just heavy and awesome. It has a couple slower tracks near the end but other than that, it's pretty wild. Not the heaviest or fastest cd by far but very good to jam to.

Artist: Bury Your Dead
Album: Cover your tracks
Genre: Modern Rock/Metal
Tracks: 12
Rating: *****

Review: Like Throwdown, Killswitch Engage and fellow Connecticut troupe Hatebreed, Bury Your Dead goes straight for the jugular on Cover Your Tracks, a bloodcurdling exercise in death metal. Gore meets 'core front and center as guitars collide with a relentless bass drum thump on the band's Victory Records debut, as lead throat Mat Bruso gargles his way through bruising, maniacal funeral marches like "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Mission: Impossible." All of the song titles are nicked from Tom Cruise movies -- "Top Gun," "Losin' It" and "The Color of Money" are a few more -- but the emotional quotient is almost always grim, baring little resemblance to the aforementioned films. Most often, BYD takes aim at nay-sayers and greedy, promiscuous women with hate and vengeance on its collective mind. Cathartic as it may be, Cover Your Tracks is a joyless experience, but if this kind of threatening, disturbing musical presentation is your bag, BYD do it about as well as any of the aforementioned. ~ John D. Luerssen, All Music Guide

pure sex. these ladies give you in your face rock with soul flowing from every breath. like another band i love, Oh My God, Von Iva features prominant crunching keys with no guitars (other than the bass). a very nice sound. only six tracks, but they're all great.

Why?:
Some songs are so catchy. Take "You to Thank" and "Landed" for instance. "Time" is pretty good as well, and "Jesusland" is catchy. But this new CD isn't full of the great stuff I fell in love with. Ben's old stuff like, "Rockin' the Suburbs" and when he was with Ben Folds Five, he was great. Its a good album, but his worst so far.

without question, the best album so far this year. riffs, riffs, and more riffs. like slow, melodic death metal. great drum work with plenty of rhythm changes. production (guitarist Chad Ginsburg) may be the best i've ever heard.

A bit late in recommending this one, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't pick it up if you're into the metal genre at all. If you are into metal, you've probably already heard people raving about them, but you really should pick the album and check it out yourself. Interesting combination of thrash, death metal, metalcore, and other metal elements in the music for this band.

EDIT: Favorite songs on the CD: Rain, Drowned and Torn Asunder, Ascendency, Like Light to the Flies

a collection of previously unreleased material from the musical geniuses Gene and Dean Ween. something to hold us over until the new album? hardly. beyond worthy of being an official album, Shinola gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. songs include the brown sound of Tastes Good on th' Bun and Big Fat F*ck, the poppy, almost Beach Boy-ish Boys Club, the Thin Lizzy like Gabrielle, and the funk of Monique the Freak, which reminds me of Stevie Wonder and Prince. if you're a fan of many genres, or just great music in general, check this, or any Ween album for that matter, out. available at ween.com (http://ween.com/chocodog/ween/).

Artist: John Butler Trio

Album: Sunrise Over Sea

Genre: Rock/Rythem & Blues

What I Think: These three guys are straight out of Australia. The guitarist/vocalist rips off some real wicked and beautiful melodies on his acoustic, 12-string guitar, slide guitar, dobrough (don't know how to spell it).

The bass player is hooked through two amps with two different pedals, so it gives it a double bass sound.

The drummer is phenomenal, enough said there. If you like good music, with musicians that can really play their instruments, this band is for you.

Some of the artists on the album include Dani Filth, Corey Taylor (singing a POLITICAL song, oh my God it's sweet), Cristian Machado, Dez Fafara, Peter Steele, Keith Caputo, Howard Jones, Dave Pybus, Paul Grey, Dave Chavarri, Mark Hunter, Andols Herrick, and many others, including the albums producers, Joey Jordison, Dino Cazares, Matt Heafy, and Robert Flynn.
