manga vs. anime: which is better?

manga and anime are basically in one category, but one has to ask the question: which is superior, manga or anime? my cousin said that anime is based on the manga. that means that the manga is first created, then the anime. in my opinion anime is better (in some cases). the inu-yasha anime was better than the manga in my opinion. although it was long, it made it better and enjoyable. i've read the initial d manga from tokyopop (volumes 1, 3,4,5,6) and it thought it was the bomb but others say the anime is better because you can see the action but i've never seen the anime so, yeah. just tell me your opinion on this.

i always liked anime better, merely because i grew up with it practically, and i saw that first. but i think that if i saw manga first, i'd probably enjoy those more than anime. to me, one can't live without the other, although anime could pass for 3 years or so alone without manga.

For me it all depends on the story. Some stories i enjoy alot more if i can read it slowly and understand it all. But i also like anime in the sense that that the action is actual action. Also alot of times the manga makes the characters look better because of the added detail, but that's just me.

Most of the time I prefer manga over anime because of its quality. However, sometimes the anime is better, I guess I agree with anyone and everyone who said it depends on the series. But hey, think of it this way... manga is most often cheaper and easier to come by. I seem to own more manga than anime largely for that reason.

In most cases, I'd say the anime is better. BUT, sometimes the anime will twist everything around and completely change it from the manga. That's what I don't like about some animes. When you're reading a manga, you don't mind all the talking. But when you're watching an anime, you think, "Stop talking! start fighting already!"I like the anime just a tad bit better though because I'd rather see the images than imagine them in my mind. The manga's have pictures too, i think most people would rather see moving pictures. But, in other cases, the manga is WAY better.

Yeah, nowadays I can't seem to find any decent mangas unless I look real hard. Like going to Wal*Mart and finding the mangas in the kitchen section is normal for our Wal*Mart, so I go to the part in the store least likely to find them and voila! There they are.

I think anime is cooler because it goes into more detail into the story and what the characters do. Unlike manga there are pictures from one to another with words that don't really give any emotion to what the characters do. Opinion

i love anime! but i had gone into a state where i had forgotten my passion for anime and manga saved my life! if it werent for manga i would've forgotten about anime and now im in a full blown frenzy! I LOVE both of them! im currently trying to watch the full Rurouni Kenshin series and i'm starting on Naruto. I'm reading the new Trigun manga's and the Rurouni Kenshin mangas. I think I like animes more because all of your admired characters are moving, and you stopped imagining what would his/her voice be. My only complaint on animes is that some of the details in the manga were not included. However, mangas are okay.

Well, in Manga the characters seem to show alot more emotions in physical ways, such as; a sign of anger a # on the forehead, or a sign of nervousness a tear *, and so on and so forth. I say this because in alot of "americanized" anime's they edit it ALOT and remove some of the funniest emotions. Not to meantion that when they translate alot of anime's, like Dragonball Z, they edit the language grossly. On the up side, Manga characters are always given almost painflully high voices! Where as basic Anime is given a manly voice *thumbs up*. Also alot of the things that they say in Manga are confusing to say the least because of translators putting the japanese words into almost rough english.

Manga was the first, then came the anime. Manga was already being drawn before it made it to TV. So in my view, Manga is SOMETIMES better. Inu-Yasha Anime is better than it's Manga, and Sailor Moon Manga is better than it's Anime. Ruroni Kenshin Anime is better than it's Manga. And Card Captor Manga is better than it's Anime, etc, etc, and so forth. besides, I like to read ^_^

You can't really say one is better, but the manga is the origanal thing. Some anime is based on a manga, but sometimes it's made by a different person then who made the manga.

that depends on how much money and time you want to spend on japanese stuff. manga is usually alot more than anime. It takes you about 30-60 minutes reading each volume and it has about 5-10 chapters. in anime each chapter is 20 minutes so if you do the math its about 100-200 minutes to get the same amount of story. Mangas are at a fixed price of 9.99 for one volume (except the large books like trigun and akira which are at 15.00 and 24.99 respectively) and anime is at about 25 dollars per DVD. So for the entire series of...say chobits you can read the entire series for about 8 hours of your time and about 80 dollars (yeah its alot) or you can watch the whole series taking about 20 hours of your time and about 200 dollars. (for a boxed set) So it all depends on how much you wanna spend on anime. I personally think they're not in the same category so its hard to compare but i think anime is alot more fun to watch. However you cant read yourself to sleep with anime.

i think that anime is better as long as its a real one like the ones on toonami. like if u u watched the whole yu yu saga on toonami then u watch one of the videos before the translated ones with the dubs then it can be pretty horrible. manga u can put ur own voices in it in your head so its like a show and u can make it nice and pretty sounding or ur can make it mean and disgustin and blood guchin sound s so i would go with manga .....but since mangas are kindof hard to find without goin to a import shop or some place or the net i choos ANIME

I have to say that manga is better in most cases. It is the original form, the original creation of the author/artist. In anime that is derived from manga, a lot of things are usually taken out of the storyline to fit into the time it is alotted on tv. A good example is Inu Yasha. The love story between Kagome and Inu Yasha is more concentrated on in the manga compared to the anime. Although, a lot of the time, the artwork and illustrations are usually 75% better in the anime compared to the manga. Things look sharper and more detailed in the anime.

On the other hand, in the anime, you get good, good action, and awesome music/voices to go with it. I will use Rurouni Kenshin as an example. The music in the whole show is very well written and brings to life the action in the show. Also the voices are really well chosen. In the dubbed version, they chose the perfect people to play the parts of everyone. Richard Hayworth is perfect for Kenshin. It's hard to find the good dubbed animes. I personally think the dubbed version of Inu Yasha sucks, those people can't act. Thats why I have all the episodes of Inu Yasha subtitled.

But then again, with manga, you don't get them translated as fast as the anime. I have the first 100 episodes of Inu Yasha subtitled on DVD. The manga for it isn't any where NEAR that much finished with the translations. So you get the anime faster than the manga over here.

Mangas tend to have alot of content and not all are transferred over when it becomes an anime. Love Hina comes to mind: they got like 14 mangas with lots of content, but most of the stuff wasnt in the animes. But since i own lots of animes and mangas, im kinda impartial to either

Well Anime give the characters a voice and movement but in alot of Animanga (Anime made from Manga) The story isn't the way the Manga-ka wanted it to be (hint Shaman King BAD DUBBING)and the Manga after watching the anime confuses the reader but reading the Manga is One-Gives you the real story Two-Helps you read better ^-^
Over all Manga is the best Choice because it gives the real story the respectful Manga-ka wanted it to be

I say that original anime is sooo much better than dubbed or manga. First of all because you get to see them moving in action, they talk so when you read it you can get an idea of how it would sound, moving animation is just so much cooler than flat paper. But here in the states manga is WAY better than dubbed, because they mess up the voices and timing so badly. But if you are desperate like me than get your anime fix on on Cartoon Network where adult swim is on w/ Inyuasha, CB, and other good stuff. Side note: Anyone see 3 x3 eyes?

Well, for me, it all depends on which anime/manga I'm reading. Sometimes, the anime looks much better than the manga, but there ARE times when the dubbing is just so stupid. However, manga can be very useful. If you buy it, you can read it at any time, and most of the time, the novels are pretty cheap.

personally... i prefer manga. lots of the time if an anime is based on a manga, they change the story, or add in new characters, and whatsuch. so i think that manga is better, b/c it's the original story, w/ the original characters. now.. if the anime isn't based on a manga, then it's usually pretty good. but i gotta say this: the dubbed english versions of japanese anime are done quite crappy. w/ the exception of a few. so i hope that producers start selling the dvds w/ both japanese and english more, that way i can watch it in it's original uncut form.

I would have to say manga. There are so many things changed when put into anime form and there are things taken out in anime. In the mangas, there is usualy a lot more in story and action. Manga usually explains a lot more. The only exception I would have to say goes to flcl, the manga just sucks.

I would have to say that anime is better as well. There is so much more that you get out of watching visually enticing graphics on a screen than you get from staring at pages of black and white, sometimes color, pictures with nausiating "SWOOSH" signs next to every movement that they make. It's just better overall. :cool:

i prefer manga for a few reasons,but mainly its because i let the scenes play themselves out in my head with my imagination,using the manga pages as guidlines,instead of watching it play out in the anime (one reason i always prefered books to movies).
manga and anime have their strong and weak points,and both have their own way of improving the story.

I think both have it's perks, because in anime you get more detail in one episode than what the book would have told you, but yet you also get like three episodes in one book too! :sly: Anyways sometimes I perfer the anime to the manga, but it goes the other way around too. For example I perfer Yu Yu Hakusho the anime better than the book, as well as Inuyasha, and Escaflowne. But I like Rayearth the manga oppose to the anime. And sometimes both are equally good like Fruits Basket.
But I just love to read, and it keeps me entertained. :lol: :lol: :lol: :blush: As does the anime... Heh. :)

MANGA yay! In mangas u usually get more of the story and background info about a character, plus little blerbs form the author lol. AND they r cheaper to boot. You can read it over and over without takeing a whole day and taking over a tv or comp.

About which one is better... I think it depends... some story are better in manga and some are better in anime. For example, it's better to watch the anime for Gundam series than to read the manga. For Naruto, I like it's manga rather than it's anime.

I think Anime is better because I really liked D.N. angel for the music and color choice for the village and such. I never read the Manga for it but despite the fact that Manga goes more in-depth I find Manga as an addition to Anime and only in Anime do you enjoy the music, story, art, etc. In Manga you have to guess what everything sounds like but in Anime the voices and music and sound effects are given.

Did i already reply to this? oh well, i think that Manga is better overall but Anime is out there.

Reasons:
-Manga requires activity, as apposed to just lounging on couch u have to turn pages!!! ^_^
-Manga has an original quality that (from what i've seen) just can't be captured by Anime
-Manga is (again from what i've seen) usually ahead of the anime which is...well cool.
-Manga can have little side comic's and stuff (ex. 4 panel comics, fav. character contests, and for Ragnarok an actual diagram of the studio!)
-Manga leaves alot of stuff to the imagination (ex. hair color, voice, etc.)
-But Anime captures actions much much much much much better than Manga ever will.

You can never say one is always better than the other. Sometimes, the manga is better because of a cool style and a lack of terrible dubbing. Sometimes, the anime is better because it looks fantastic and movement really brings the story alive. In my experience, the manga has always been better than the anime. Anime tends to leave out stuff thats in the manga and it seems that you can fit more humor into a manga. Also.. Manga is much more portable. :)

I like both equally for different reasons
Anime, a lot of times, leaves out a bunch of stuff that you can only read in the manga. Like Hellsing, for example. The thirteen episodes of Hellsing was a tiny little part of what was in the manga.
Anime is animated so its understandable to say that anime is more interesting than manga.
But I think I would have liked Serial Experiments Lain in manga form, cause the anime was just plain boring as hell with all the long silence scenes. With the manga I could have just skipped through it.
If anything I prefer manga over anime because of a few reasons. There is more manga available for *coughdownloadcough* than there is anime. And its also a lot faster to download. Considering that a single episode of anime could be anywhere from 150 to 250MB and an entire series of manga could be that same amount. Also, manga is faster. You can read an entire volume in roughly 20 minutes, the length of an average anime episode. And, that one volume can cover as much plot as a couple anime episodes.
I have around 15 blank DVD's that have been burned with various anime series. And, I have around 20GB of manga with around 80 different series. Visit my fserv on irc ---> fj2DragonMage, I'm on random channels...or not...cause leechers are annoying.

I prefer anime, mainly because I had never heard the term manga until I was in Highschool (now in 5th semester of college). There are somethings you see in the manga that you don't see in the anime, unless its uncut and uncensored. The way I read manga is through a Shonen Jump Subscription. One anime I've been waiting for is Naruto and I hope Toonami didn't tear it to shreds in their neverending quest to destroy the way animes should be viewed. By the way Naruto Airs September 10th @ 9pm.

Though I like both and manga is pretty cool, i still go with anime.

But then again I preferred the anime Yuu Yuu Hakusho over the manga.

And sometimes the anime does come before the manga, but that's generally not the case.
